Timely Information For Paramotor Pilots

Nov 5, 2008 Carlos Signini, a USPPA instructor in southeast Florida, warns pilots about flying in the Class B airspace of Dania Beach.

He writes: "We are not allow to fly in Dania Beach until further notice. If you do, you will be approached by FAA agents and will be fined. Plus, you will put our efforts of reaching an agreement with ATC in jeopardy. Yes, the FAA is keeping a close eye on all PPG activity in the area. Even if you launch from a different site, I will recommend you stay away from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) airspace until further notice.

As many of you know, when we fly Dania Beach we are actually flying in controlled "B" airspace from FLL. We have been doing so for years by flying low and smart. However, and due to the growing number of pilots, some of whom we have no communications with, Dania Beach has seen an increase in PPG activity in the last couple of years.

Some of these pilots are flying without consideration on how their actions can affect the privileges of all. They call unwanted attention from the authorities who, unfortunately, have all the right to ban our flying activities in the area completely. I, along with another club member, have met with the FAA at their FLL office and will meet in two weeks with ATC to try and find a solution that will allow us to keep flying that site. However, do not expect that we will have the same freedom. IF we come to an agreement, it will only be with a set of rules, predetermined flying times, and so on. We are in the hands of ATC who are the decision making body in this matter."
