The weather outside is frightful...wellllllllll not all the time. There has been some rain as of late which is a good thing given the local water restrictions in the area.
The first thing one clues into flying these areas is rotor. There is not a flat spot to be found around these here parts. Unless you have dead calm or close to it you are going to get some bump.
Paying attention to wind direction around the ridges is a big deal! There are a couple of flags in the valley I can use to judge speed and direction. One likes to think soarable but given the tree cover on the mountains
you would be tempting a tree landing if you had an engine out.
The conditions can change quickly and I had to land out due to things kicking up one night.A guy from the local garage was kind enough to give me a lift back to my truck after a mile hike with all the passing traffic wondering what planet this came from.
My toughest launch to date is included in the one shot of the field from the ground. It was little more than a swatch cleared out in the mountains. The gents I was with commented on my fast manuvering to clear the zig zag road course it took to miss all the trees.
The best part about being here is the milder winters and the longer possible season. I won't have to go thru total winter
withdrawal and climb the walls. I have one guy presently serious about training with me and possibly another just behind. I have been taking shots of some of the local establishments and passing on the digital shots via email
unrequested. Good for local PR. Whenever anyone local asks where I'm from I point up
and say I'm the guy with the yellow wing and Nike swatch.
